On June 14, 2008, Svensson went missing during a scuba diving session on Ingarö outside of Stockholm, Sweden. His diving companions eventually found him lying unconscious on the seabed. Having sustained serious injuries, he was rushed to Karolinska University Hospital by helicopter, but his life could not be saved. He was 44 years old, married and the father of two sons.

Though I don’t believe in regrets and the futile “if only’s”, I do dearly regret not going to see EST when they came last to London…thinking there would be another chance… their powerful music will always remind me to live in the moment…

After some days he died I was cycling in the evening in small villages and heard Behind the yasmak and farewelled him.
I saw them in February and as I know they planned coming back again to Budapest…

  20. joeljjison Says:

When i was younger and only just getting into jazz, i didn’t really get this music. It was too modern for my undeveloped years, and i developed a bias against it from then, even as I got into plenty of other very individual and modern stuff. These last couple of days, I’ve been listening to EST, after i saw this masquerade on here and was amazed. Now i hear him, and i feel incredibly gutted, and incredibly sad. RIP Esjbörn
